Stanley Tucci wishes Supernova achieved ‘more success’
Stanley Tucci was sad that Harry Macqueen didn’t get more recognition for his project.
Stanley Tucci wishes the writer and director of his 2021 movie Supernova received “more success” for the film.
The British romance drama, written and directed by Harry Macqueen, starred Tucci and Colin Firth as longtime romantic partners grappling with a dementia diagnosis.
While the moving film received critical praise and has an 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it was barely mentioned in the awards conversation. The Devil Wears Prada star admitted he was sad that Macqueen didn’t get more recognition for his project.
“It’s an absolutely beautiful film. I love that director and it got wonderful reviews and everything, though there were no awards or anything like that,” Tucci said to Variety. “That made me sad for the director/writer because I think he’s extraordinary. Getting an independent film about that subject off the ground like that is hard, and I wanted him to have more. I wanted him to have more success afterward.”
The Hunger Games actor named Supernova as one of his movies that have “stood the test of time” alongside The Devil Wears Prada, The Lovely Bones and Julie & Julia.
Tucci’s latest film, Conclave, may also have longevity thanks to its current success at the box office and its prominence this awards season.
The star, who plays Cardinal Aldo Bellini in the Vatican City-set thriller, told the publication that he was pleasantly surprised by the “diversity of the audience” going to cinemas to see it.
Of the reception, he added, “It’s great when a movie like this comes along, which is rare; you’re happy about it on so many levels. One, for selfish reasons, because you have a great role and will work with amazing people, and two; you’re telling an interesting story.”
