Rooney Mara insists Audrey Hepburn biopic ‘is still very much alive’
Rooney Mara was first attached to the project two years ago.
Rooney Mara has insisted her Audrey Hepburn biopic is still in the works.
It was announced in January 2022 that The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo actress would portray the Breakfast at Tiffany’s star in Luca Guadagnino’s biographical drama.
The Call Me By Your Name director revealed he was no longer involved with the project in October 2023, casting doubt over the future of the film, however, Mara told Deadline on Thursday the movie was still happening.
“The project is not completely dead,” she explained. “Luca is no longer going to be directing it, but the project is still very much alive.”
Mara, who is also set to produce the film, added, “I can’t say more than that right now.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the Oscar-nominated actress expressed hope that she and her partner Joaquin Phoenix will star in The Island, to be directed by Polish filmmaker Pawel Pawlikowski. The project stalled last year due to the actors’ strike.
Giving an update, she shared, “Me, Joaquin, and Pawel still have hope that we will make it. We just don’t know when that will be. It doesn’t look like that will happen this year. But we’re all committed to the project.”
Mara spoke to Deadline to support her new movie, La Cocina, which debuted at the Berlin International Film Festival on Thursday.
