Ian McKellen returns to acting for first time since stage fall

Ian McKellen was spotted filming alongside James Corden, Jessica Gunning and Michaela Coel.
Ian McKellen has returned to a film set for the first time since he fell from a theatre stage last year.
The Lord of the Rings actor injured his neck and wrist when he fell from a London theatre stage in June, and he subsequently withdrew from the production and took time off to recover.
The 85-year-old has now returned to set to shoot Steven Soderbergh’s latest film The Christophers on location in London.
In paparazzi photos, he could be seen filming scenes in which he opened the door of his home to James Corden and Baby Reindeer’s Jessica Gunning.
He also underwent a costume change, going from filming in a multicoloured striped jumper and a blue corduroy jacket to a burnt orange striped jumper with a burgundy corduroy jacket.
I May Destroy You actress Michaela Coel was also photographed filming at the same doorstep location.
While the project marks his first time on a set, McKellen previously returned to work last year to do post-production voice recordings for his movie The Critic before he promoted its release in September.
The Christophers was announced in December. According to Deadline, the dark comedy follows the estranged children of a once-famous artist who hire a forger to complete his unfinished works so they can be discovered and sold after his death.
Soderbergh is directing the film from a script by Ed Solomon.
The Sex, Lies, and Videotape filmmaker is well known for his ability to turn movies around quickly; he released his supernatural thriller Presence in January and is already gearing up to promote his next movie, the star-studded spy thriller Black Bag, in March.
