Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine danced together during The Idea of You audition
Anne Hathaway asked all the actors reading for the role of Hayes to dance with her.
Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine danced together to test their chemistry during his audition for The Idea of You.
In the movie adaptation of Robinne Lee’s novel, Hathaway plays Solène, a 40-year-old single mother who falls for a 24-year-old British popstar named Hayes.
During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, The Devil Wears Prada star revealed that she asked all the actors reading for the role of Hayes to dance with her.
“The idea of making out with all of the actors that were coming in (to read) didn’t really appeal to me and so I was like, how do you decide whether or not you have a chemistry with someone? You dance with them,” she explained. “So part of the audition was, yes, you have to prepare the scenes, but we came up with the idea of doing a improv where it’s like you’re going to bring in a song of your own choosing that Hayes would love and you’re going to convince Solène, my character, to dance.
“Michael Showalter, our director, he’s gonna press play and I don’t know what’s about to happen and we’ll see what happens when we dance.”
Hathaway noted that the idea was a great test of chemistry as some actors “aced” the readings but didn’t have a spark with her during the dance.
Reflecting on filming the romantic comedy with the Red, White & Royal Blue actor, she added, “We had so so much fun working on this. He’s someone who is very easy to like spark with, just who he is as a person, which is exactly what you want from Hayes and Solène.”
The Idea of You is currently without a release date.
