Anna Sawai responds to Yoko Ono casting rumours

Anna Sawai won a SAG Award for Shōgun on Sunday.
Anna Sawai has responded to the rumour that she is set to play John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono in the upcoming Beatles films.
Earlier this month, it was reported that the Shōgun actress was being eyed to play the Japanese artist and activist in Sam Mendes’s upcoming four-film series, which will focus on a different member of the band.
After winning the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series award for Shōgun at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards on Sunday night, Sawai was asked by reporters backstage about the speculation.
“I think a rumour is just a rumour,” she simply replied, before going on to discuss how she wants to move forward professionally following her SAG, Golden Globe and Emmy wins.
“I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do, so I’m reading a lot of scripts,” the Japanese actress shared, reports Deadline. “I’m also doing a lot of meetings and I just want to make sure that what I’m choosing is the right thing. So it might take time for me to find the right project, but I’m trying to be selective so that I can surprise everyone who’s going to watch it.”
All four films will be released in 2027 and focus on a different member of the Fab Four: Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison.
None of the cast has been officially confirmed. However, Starr let slip that Barry Keoghan will be playing him and director Ridley Scott claimed that Paul Mescal will be portraying McCartney.
According to reports, Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn is in line to play Harrison and Babygirl actor Harris Dickinson is being eyed for Lennon.
