Reese Witherspoon in talks to join A Wrinkle in Time
Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling are reportedly about to sign on for Ava DuVernay's new film, A Wrinkle in Time.
Reese Witherspoon is in negotiations to join Oprah Winfrey in the upcoming adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time.
The Oscar-winner has been tapped to play Mrs. Whatsit, a former celestial being and one of the mysterious women who send the teen protagonists on their tesseracting journeys through time and space.
Actress Mindy Kaling is also in final talks to star alongside her pal Reese as literature-quoting Mrs. Who, while Oprah rounds out the trio as Mrs. Which, the leader of the pack.
The project marks a reunion between Oprah and Selma director Ava DuVernay, who will helm the project. Oscar-winner and Frozen writer Jennifer Lee has penned the adapted screenplay, while Amy Adams and Kevin Hart are among those in talks to also star in the film, according to Deadline.
A Wrinkle in Time was written by author Madeleine L'Engle and centres on a group of children who travel back in time to find their missing scientist father. The novel won the Newbery Medal in 1963.
Shooting is scheduled to begin in November (16).
A Wrinkle in Time would mark the first Disney film Reese has made since 2002’s Sweet Home Alabama. While there are no concrete plans for a sequel to the romantic comedy, the blonde star recently revealed she’d definitely be on board if movie execs decided to make a second instalment.
"I love Sweet Home Alabama!" she said during a Facebook Live to chat. "We are not making a sequel that I know of, but if Disney wants to call me, I would happily make a Sweet Home Alabama 2!"
Reese will also be producing and starring in a live action Tinker Bell movie with Disney.
