Kevin Costner in talks to join Jessica Chastain in Molly’s Game
Kevin Costner could be joining Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba in poker biopic Molly's Game.
Kevin Costner is in talks to play Jessica Chastain's father in new movie Molly’s Game.
Jessica is set to play real-life poker ace Molly Bloom in the adaptation of her memoir Molly’s Game: From Hollywood's Elite to Wall Street's Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker in the film, which will also feature Idris Elba and Michael Cera.
According to Deadline, Kevin could portray Jessica’s father in the project, which will be Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin's directorial debut.
Molly was an Olympic skier who became an organiser of underground poker games for the rich and famous in Hollywood, including Ben Affleck and Leonardo DiCaprio. However, she was caught and arrested by 17 FBI agents in the middle of the night, hiring criminal defence lawyer to aid her case.
Molly’s Game is financed by Entertainment One and The Mark Gordon Company, and was one of the most popular pre-sale titles at Cannes in May (16) with negotiations reportedly reaching almost $9 million (£7.3 million). Mark Gordon is producing alongside former Sony chairwoman Amy Pascal under her Pascal Pictures business, while Leopoldo Gout is acting as executive producer.
Production begins in November (16), with Mark telling Deadline during Cannes: “(It’s) a very human story... It’s a character piece, it’s the people in her life, it’s her transformation of going from a young woman who was just about to go to law school who got sucked up into this wonderful, horrible opportunity of running this card game in Los Angeles.”
In the meantime fans can next see Jessica as lobbyist Elizabeth Sloane in Miss Sloane, while Kevin has Hidden Figures in the pipeline, Idris is set to star in The Dark Tower, and Michael has films including Human People and Lemon in production.
