Don’t underestimate Emily Ratajkowski!
Emily Ratajkowski is easy to underestimate as “just another beautiful girl”, says We Are Your Friends director Max Joseph.
Emily Ratajkowski is capable of “subverting expectations”, according to director Max Joseph.
The 23-year-old model first shot to fame in Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines video before being cast alongside Ben Affleck in Gone Girl.
Her next role sees her star with Zac Efron in Max’s We Are your Friends.
And Max said he was quick to have passed judgment on stunning brunette Emily before he officially started working with her.
“At first you underestimate Emily as just another beautiful girl,” Max told The Editorialist magazine. “But give her a second to speak and immediately you find yourself leaning in as she quickly subverts your expectations and transforms into a powerful force who you can’t look away from. I could see that she was extremely poised, oddly calm and quietly very confident—the kind of self-assuredness that can take over a room. And when she looked you dead in the eye it was unnerving.”
Max’s direction of the film was entirely different than David Fincher’s approach to the 2014 adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s novel Gone Girl.
When it came to David’s approach, Emily had to leave all her acting intuitions at the door on the way in.
“On set, David basically told me to not think,” Emily said in the interview with the publication. “It’s counterintuitive because you do all this research and think about how you want this character to come off and then you get on set and basically need to let that all go.”
Emily also relished the chance to watch acting veteran Ben in action while shooting Gone Girl.
“It was monkey see, monkey do,” she noted. “You see how this person is doing it and you rise the occasion.”
