Director Darren Aronofsky impressed by Jennifer Lawrence's acting skills in Mother!
The Oscar winner was so into her desperate character she hyperventilated and threw a rib out on set
Moviemaker Darren Aronofsky was left in awe of his girlfriend Jennifer Lawrence's acting talents when he directed her in new movie Mother!
The 27-year-old Oscar winner fell for her director while they were making the creepy new thriller, and now he has revealed he was floored by her acting skills on set.
In an interview with Vulture, the Black Swan filmmaker, who is 20 years older than his girlfriend, admits he knew Lawrence was a rare talent but had no idea just how good she was until they started working together.
"During the big climax of the movie... she really went there," he gushes."The producers were freaking out. We had to sort of calm it down and then go for it again. And the thing is, there's so much ability there that somehow she can summon it again and again."
Aronofsky reveals Lawrence was so into her character she "hyperventilated and also kind of threw a rib out" while filming.
And she surprised him on set because she was so relaxed during rehearsals - so much so that he began to worry about getting the performance he needed out of her.
"There were a lot of things that the script asked that I have never seen her do, so I was trying to figure out how we were going to get there," the director explains. "And during the rehearsals, she was very, very relaxed... I really didn't get to know the character until we started shooting, and she showed up."
The filmmaker and his leading lady kept it professional throughout the shoot and hooked up shortly after wrapping the film last September (16).
Mother!, in which Lawrence plays a young wife whose life is turned upside down by creepy guests who invade her home, opens in America on 15 September (17).
