Brie Larson lands Samuel L. Jackson and Joan Cusack for directorial debut
Brie Larson's directorial debut Unicorn Store has just landed three new big names.
Samuel L. Jackson and Joan Cusack have signed on to star in Oscar winner Brie Larson's big directorial debut.
The Room actress will lead the cast of comedy Unicorn Store, about a woman who moves home to live with her parents, and now Cusack, The West Wing's Bradley Whitford, and Jackson, Larson's co-star in the forthcoming Kong: Skull Island, have joined the project.
Larson will also produce the film, which is based on a screenplay by Samantha McIntyre.
It is already in production in Los Angeles, reports Deadline.com.
The movie had originally been set to star Rebel Wilson with director Miguel Arteta taking charge of the picture, but scheduling issues for both torpedoed the film. It was then brought to Larson after she won the Best Actress Academy Award earlier this year (16).
Hercules Film Fund is fully financing the project, with Rhea Films producing while Larson and others including Lynette Howell Taylor, Ruben Fleischer - who developed the script - are producing. Meanwhile Jean-Luc De Fanti, Anne Woodward, and writer McIntyre are executive producing.
Larson posted an article about the casting news on her Twitter page, clearly excited by the progression.
The 27-year-old star has a busy schedule coming up; on top of Unicorn Store and Kong: Skull Island she has films The Glass Castle, Basmati Blues, Captain Marvel and a rumoured role in Avengers: Infinity War. If she lands a part in the last, that means she and Jackson will join forces three times, as the actor is set to return as Nick Fury in the 2018 Marvel movie.
